The Cap and Dove

We were invited to support GM Arts to develop an artistic programme as a legacy from 2019’s Peterloo bi-centenary. We worked with the 10 local authorities of Greater Manchester to develop a collective approach to commissioning that would enable ambition, engagement and artists’ development.

The Cap and Dove is a new commission by artist Joshua Sofaer, curated and produced by Rule of Threes with associate Debbie Chan. The Cap and Dove is a tiny arts centre on wheels, and it specially created an ensemble of theatre-makers and performers, will visit the 10 Greater Manchester Boroughs during Spring 2021 to explore the themes of democracy, freedom and protest with local people.

Joshua Sofaer is concerned with modes of collaboration and participation, which he explores through social sculpture, performance, installation, exhibition and publication. His art and performance have been seen across the UK at galleries such as the Tate Modern and the ICA, festivals including Manchester International Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Hull City of Culture and internationally in Stockholm to San Francisco. www.joshuasofaer.com.
